5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Backbone For A Beast!, May 21, 2012

This great motherboard is now sitting within a NZXT Phantom 410 Mid Tower USB 3.0 Gaming Case - White and is looking brilliant. The capabilites of this board are fantastic: PCI-E 3.0, USB 3.0, native Ivy Bridge support, with a lot of utilities to go along with it. The Bios alone is awe-inspiring with how much control you have over every aspect of each component down to how much power you want to send down to .01V.

This really is a fantastically built component, aesthetically it looks great in a case. The installation is rather tedious because the screws must go into rather deep holes within the Thermal Armor, which makes it a balancing act if your screwdriver happens to not be magnetized, but I wouldn't deduct a star or anything for this inconvenience.

The only real downside comes from the 8-pin connector which... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Be careful of BIOS version 1206 and 1304, use 1708 or later, June 10, 2012

Update: BIOS v.1708 works without the VGA LED error, finally this Asus bug is fixed!

Update: Asus responded to try the newest BIOS v.1304, but that resulted in the same failure to start with the VGA LED. I have an Asus EAH6850 video card and it is odd that Asus can't make their BIOS updates work with their own Asus branded card. I flashed back to BIOS v.1015 and only that version works to bring the PC back to life.

Update: Upon "successfully" updating the BIOS to v.1206 (which is supposed to "improve system stability") the computer would not boot and the display was completely blank. The VGA LED on the motherboard next to the PCIe slot turned red indicating a VGA failure, and the hard drives made strange noises with a blank display. Clearing CMOS didn't fix it. I finally recovered by using the USB Flashback feature to go back to BIOS v.1015 (re-flashing to 1206 did not work). Microsoft Windows and Office are asking to re-activate; strangely Microsoft... ASUS Support says:
(MANUFACTURER)
Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard after updating BIOS.

Since you've last written this review, we have released a newer BIOS, version 1304 on 7/13/2012, that addresses system stability and may correct the red PCIe LED problem. Be sure to always load defaults after updating BIOS to clear old values.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know at cl-benson@asus.com.

Regards,
Benson

I did not purchase this board through Amazon (the first time)

I installed this with an i7-2600k and love the board! I chose it because of problems I'd experienced with the first board I had--the Asus p8z68v Pro-Gen3...I figured this board was probably assembled with more care/higher quality components because of the five year warranty.(and high price)
Everything on the board worked out of the box, after installing the drivers. The UEFI Bios is easy to learn and use, and encourages experimentation. I don't intend to overclock, just want a fast stable system to edit photos and create art prints. I didn't update the BIOS. My WEI is 7.7 on all parameters, except my SSD, which scores a 7.9.
<<<<<<<UPDATE: USB controller now works fine>>>>>>>The only caveat to the otherwise perfect performance so far is the Intel USB controller is not functional. After getting everything set up in the case, attempts to plug in my USB 3.0 external Hdd were met with a... Read more
